This is a first for HAA. We usually try to cast everyone and give everyone as much stage time as possible, but “Spring Awakening” is not that kind of show. Unfortunately we could not cast everyone. There were a lot of tough decisions to make and close calls. Literally EVERYONE who auditioned could sing, so we really relied on your acting ability and your conflicts to decide the cast.
If you did not make the cast list, please don’t take it personally. Casting was VERY close. It really did come down to acting and conflicts. I strongly recommend you all audition for our upcoming BIG musicals, “Grease” in the summer and “Heathers” in the fall. Both shows have a BIG cast, with many opportunities for all styles of actors. If you’d like personal feedback on your audition I am always more than willing to have an open dialogue about my thoughts.
Please keep in mind that a lot of juggling goes into casting a show. We put people where they will shine the brightest. At HAA we pride ourselves on giving people lots of opportunities to be on stage. There will be lots of dance numbers with everyone. We promise each person will be showcased with a chance to truly shine. All of the “Girls” will be in each girl number and the “Boys” will be in all of the boy numbers.
You MUST accept or decline your role by 4pm on Thursday, Dec 14th by emailing HAA@harringtonartsalliance.org. Please let us know right away, as we have a list of alternatives we can add in your place. There are a lot of people who want to be a part of this production.
Our first cast meeting is Tuesday, February 13th from 5:30-8:00pm. We will hand out scripts, go over contracts and expectations, and delve into the music right away. We have no time to waste with doing a full length musical in only 8 weeks.
Congrats to everyone. Please keep in mind we have a great lineup of shows coming the rest of this season with a dramatic, dark straight play in the summer “columbinus”, to a musical theatre classic “Grease” also this summer, and ending our 2017-2018 season with “Heathers” in the fall. Your audition for future shows begin with these moments. We look forward to working with each and every one of you… and remember “All shall know the wonder, of purple summer..”
